VAT calculator.
Net to gross, or gross to net, at the rate that applies.
VAT
at 20%
UK standard rate 20%, reduced 5%, zero 0%. UAE standard rate 5%. Whether VAT applies at all depends on the supply and the place of supply; this tool only does the arithmetic.
How do I take VAT out of a gross figure?
Divide the gross by 1.2 for UK standard rate, or by 1.05 for the UAE, to get the net. The difference is the VAT. Multiplying gross by 20 percent overstates it.
When must I register?
In the UK, when taxable turnover in any rolling twelve months exceeds £90,000. In the UAE, when taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000, with voluntary registration from AED 187,500.
Does VAT apply on an invoice to a customer abroad?
Often not. For business-to-business services the place of supply is usually where the customer is. For goods, exports are zero-rated. The rules are specific; this tool only does the arithmetic once you know the rate.
